NIB and Belarus sign framework agreement

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – The Belarus Government and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) have signed the framework agreement establishing the Bank’s legal status permitting lending operations in Belarus with focus on environmental projects, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Belarus Stefan Eriksson told reporters in Minsk on 3 June, BelTA has learnt. 

The diplomat noted that the Nordic Investment Bank will start operating in Belarus soon. In Belarus, NIB will finance environmental improvements primarily in wastewater treatment, because Belarus is part of the Baltic Sea catchment area. According to Stefan Eriksson, NIB has operated in the Baltic countries and Russia for a long time.

The Nordic Investment Bank finances projects that strengthen competitiveness and enhance the environment. The Bank offers long-term loans and guarantees on competitive market terms to its clients in the private and public sectors. NIB is an international financial institution owned by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The Bank has lending operations both in its member countries and in emerging markets in: Africa and the Middle East; Asia; Europe and Eurasia; and Latin America. NIB acquires the funds for its lending by borrowing on the international capital markets. NIB's bonds enjoy the highest possible credit rating.
