MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Italy have signed an agreement to establish the Italian Industrial Area in the Brest Oblast on 22 February, BelTA has learnt.
The document was signed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky, Italy's Deputy Minister for Economic Development Adolfo Urso and Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Konstantin Sumar.
According to Valery Voronetsky, this agreement should give a powerful impetus to the development of the region and encourage Italian business to come to Belarus. “The Italian Industrial Area featuring Italian banks, enterprises and capital will be set up in the Brest Oblast. The concept of the Italian Industrial Area is expected to be developed by March. I think by that time we will choose investors, investment projects and I hope the project will be launched this or next year,” Valery Voronetsky said. He underlined that in the recent years the economic (commercial, financial) cooperation between Belarus and Italy has gained momentum. He is convinced that this cooperation has great prospects.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus added that the partners are showing a sincere interest in Belarus which is a kind of cooperation bridge between the west and east. A great significance is attached to the transit potential of the country. Credit arrangement and setting up Italian companies are also viewed as promising cooperation avenues.
Italy's Deputy Minister for Economic Development Adolfo Urso pointed out that the bilateral economic cooperation agreements are being fulfilled. The Belarus-Italy cooperation might become extremely vigorous in a number of areas. “Our task is to double investments in Belarus and secure a footing here,” Adolfo Urso said.
