Belarus, Cuba mull over joint project in biomedicine

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Cuba plan to implement a joint project in the area of biomedicine, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Science and Technology Committee.

As was mentioned at the meeting between Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Gerardo Suarez Alvarez, the Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and BIO Cuba Farma plan to develop microbial drugs to protect economically important vegetable crops from diseases. This Belarus-Cuba project will result in the production of high-activity varieties of bacteria with a broad wide antagonistic action spectrum in respect to phytopathogenic microflora and also biological products to protect green crops from diseases of different etiologies.

The joint project in biomedicine will be implemented in line with the protocol of the first meeting of the Belarusian-Cuban commission on cooperation in science and technology. The parties also consider a possibility of implementing joitn projects in the area of medical technology and pharmacy.
