Vladimir Kovalenok, cosmonaut. Born in the village of Beloye, Krupki district, the Minsk region, on March 3, 1942.

Air Force Colonel-General (1993). Two-time Hero of the Soviet Union (1978, 1981). Hero of the German Democratic Republic (1978). MPR Hero (1981). USSR pilot-cosmonaut.

Vladimir Kovalenok is one of those who pioneered space exploration. He made three space missions: in 1977, 1978, and 1981. He spent 216 days in space in total.

In July 1992 Vladimir Kovalenok was appointed Head of the Air Force Engineering Academy named after Professor Zhukovsky in Moscow. It is now the Military Aviation Technical University.
